Winter Talk 1 - The science of building anchors
Wednesday, 16th December 2020 at 8:15pm
Location: Zoom (link will be sent to club members via email)
This event is in the past.
The first of our winter talks to get your through the cold, dark nights. Grab a sherry and a mince pie and settle in for an audience with Masa on "The science of building anchors". Masa has climbed extensively all over the world and has a healthy respect for gravity. He will talk about the basic principles of climbing (belaying) anchors with an emphasis on the principle of equalisation (happily no equations are involved).
In Masa's words "more than a half of climbers in Britain in 2020, including many of the instructors and high-profile climbers, ignored the principle, as if they could defy the 330-years-old zillion-times-proved theory of gravity — hence my incentive to talk about this subject".
The talk will be via Zoom at the slightly revised time of 8:15pm on 16th December. We'll circulate the Zoom link and a reminder to you all a couple of days beforehand.
This is a chance to listen and discuss, and is not designed to replace practical training or give tuition.
