5. Moel Eilio Ridge walks
A truly great day out climbs Snowdon via its northern ridge. Either drive and park or walk via the old railway line to Llanberis, then up either of the minor roads that lead up Moel Eilio. The first one leads steeply up to the col at 557599 (as on the descent in the Snowdonia Marathon) then you swing south up the ridge to Eilio. The second is the YHA road which leads up to the foot of the NE ridge of the same hill.
From Eilio, take the ridge SE over Foel Gron, Foel Goch, and Moel Cynghorion (fabulous running and views of 'Cloggy') eventually to join the Snowdon Ranger track steeply up to Snowdon top. Return via the Llanberis track, a gentle jog downhill. This circuit can be cut short at Telegraph Col before Moel Cynhorion or at the col by Clogwyn Du’ Arddu with a return back to Llanberis. For those who like a pint, an alternative is to drop off westwards at Telegraph col to Snowdon Ranger and then to the Cwellyn Arms in Rhyd-Ddu. Return via Telegraph col.
