Bowline CC - Weekly upade (Tuesday 7th May)

E-mail sent by Andrew Potter, Tuesday, 7th May 2019 @ 11:30pm

Hi Bowliners,

Hope you all got out and made the most of the bank holiday weekend! A group of Bowliners spent a chilly but productive weekend in Pembroke, including a rescuing two climbers who had abseiled into an area they couldn't climb out of, well done Pixie and Harper!

You should all have received invites to upcoming meets in May. Checkout the meets list on the website for the details or the list below in this email (which is correct this time unlike last weeks).

Don't forget these weekly updates will be coming out on a Tuesday so if you want anything including let me know before Tuesday lunchtime.

  • Tuesday nights as always we are getting out bouldering fixing at The Climbing Station from 6pm.
  • Wednesday evening running is starting/finishing at the normal location of Bradgate park main car park this week, usual start time of 18:30 sharp. Suitable for all abilities!
  • Thursday weather is looking a bit iffy so our default location is The Tower climbing wall from 6pm, however we may outdoors if the weather improves, we'll email to confim what is happening but join us either way.
  • We have a club committee meeting this Wednesday evening. All clubs members are welcome to attend club committee meetings. The minutes of the last club committee meeting can be found on the members area of the website.
  • The BMC have announced a 12 month trial of a new incident and near-miss reporting system. The idea is to help the climbing and hillwalking communities by allowing valuable learning from these experiences. Checkout more info on the BMC website.
  • The BMC have also launched their Hills2Oceans (H2O) campaign to help tackle the growing problem of plastic litter. This is a campaign that everyone can get involved in both individually and as a group/club. Check more details and sign-up to help on the campaign website.

Kind regards,

Andy

Bowline CC - Weekly upade (Tuesday 30th Apri)

E-mail sent by Andrew Potter, Tuesday, 30th April 2019 @ 2:55pm

Hi Bowliners,

Welcome to the return of our weekly updates, highlighting all things Bowline. The weather is drying up and the nights are getting longer. Time for Bowliners to come out of hibernation and get out on the crags, fells, trails, etc!

Our weekly updates will be coming out on a Tuesday so if you want anything including let me know before Tuesday lunchtime. We'll include in this update the location of this weeks Wednesday running and Thursday climbing. Here we go:

  • Tonight as always we are bouldering at The Climbing Station from 6pm. Those who have been to Font last week will be keen to inspire you with tales of the joys of bouldering in the magical forest.
  • Wednesday evening running has a change of venue, we are starting/finishing at the Beacon Hill Lower Car Park, usual start time of 18:30. Come and join us, I'll be there so you won't be the slowest!
  • Thursday weather is looking a bit iffy so our default location is The Tower climbing wall from 6pm, however we may go to Craig Buddon if the weather improves, we'll email to confim if this is the case.
  • And of course we have our trip to Pembrokshire for Sea Cliff climbing this weekend, weather looks good so come and join us!

Kind regards,

Andy

Bowline CC - Bowline climbing in the early 70's

E-mail sent by Andrew Potter, Sunday, 28th April 2019 @ 10:57pm

Hi Bowliners,

Those at the annual dinner last year will have already seen this but it has now been added to our YouTube channel and linked from the club history page on our website. This video is of members of the Bowline Climbing Club at Raven Tor. The original of this film was taken on a B&H wind-up cine camera using Kodachrome standard 8mm film. This has been digitised and enhanced to give a brief snapshot of climbing in the early 70's. NB: There is no audio, click the thumbnail below to watch.

A big thanks to Brian Manton for getting this video digitised and enhanced, and for giving us permission to share it.

Bowline CC - Free hut key exchange until end of April

E-mail sent by Andrew Potter, Tuesday, 2nd April 2019 @ 5:54pm

Hi Bowliners,

It has been nearly 18 months since we had a new front door on our club hut and therefore a new lock. Many of you who had hut keys have exchanged them for a new key free of charge. However there are still some people with old hut keys. Those of you with old hut keys have until the end of April to arrange to exchange them for a new key. After that you will have to pay a new deposit for a new key.

To arrange your key exchange please contact Dave Toach (07703 121591).

Kind regards,

Andy
